On 20 December 2019 the D.R.O.P.S. team visited the Durbanville Children’s Home, Cape Town, South Africa for half a day of educational and fun activities during their Christmas break. The team included 15 volunteers from near and far which included South Africa, Germany, United States and Dubai.
Durbanville Children’s Home is Non-Profit Organization and is one of the oldest children home’s in South Africa dating back to 1883. The institution takes care of 144 children placed by the court.
On the day approximate 88 children joined the activities and our aim was to ensure maximum love during the festive holiday period. The day started with the D.R.O.P.S. awareness sessions, which included Medical and Dental, Hygiene, and Wellness including Nutrition, and Exercise demonstrations and education.
The rest of the day incorporated a “Holidays Games Tournament” – with egg racing, 3 legged race and a potato sack race, and “Toddler Games” with fun coloring and face painting. D.R.O.P.S. also donated rugby, soccer and netballs and a cricket set to the children’s home. Volunteers also spend one on one time with the children to give some love and holiday cheer and participated in a small yoga/meditation session with our Yogi Volunteer.
The afternoon ended with a meal for all kids and a handmade Christmas goody bag with a big farewell and lots of smiles.
Thank you to Durbanville Children’s home for welcoming the D.R.O.P.S. team and look forward to our next visit.
