In early July 2013, we were in northeastern Kenya, an area that covers 127,358 km² and whose main counties include Garissa, Ijara, Wajir and Mandera. A vast region that has only about 21 hospitals. Additional basic medical care is provided there by 114 dispensaries, which serve as the first admission stations for most patients, and 8 nursing homes with maternity wards.
Since dental care in particular is inadequate or even non-existent, D.R.O.P.S. initiated a dental care program in cooperation with many volunteers from Dubai and some local doctors. "Healthy teeth for all" was the motto, with everyone contributing their skills to ensure that this dental health awareness program was effective and especially fun for the children.
We managed to provide dental treatments as well as dental hygiene education to several hundred people of all ages in a single day. This will be remembered very fondly not only by the local people, but also by all the helpers.
