Playground project in Uganda (August, 2014)

Project description:

Playground for vulnerable children in need

Childhood in Uganda looks different than in Europe, but even here children want to be able to play carefree, to forget everyday worries for a while. Uganda is an area where we met children living in the poorest conditions. Without running water or electricity and unfortunately often without parents and any educational opportunities.

Thanks to our sponsors, D.R.O.P.S. built a permanent playground there and supported the development of a local education system. Providing children of these slums with a safe place to live and experience life fosters trust and community and creates a foundation for further learning.

In doing so, we believe we are creating a focal point for coming together and learning. An important step for a better future!

“The best way to make children good is to make them happy.” - Oscar Wilde

The first successes of this initiative were already evident at the opening of the community-building plaza. At first, the children did not know what to do with this playground. The reason for this is that they have never had the opportunity to see or use such toys. However, after an introduction by us, we were able to see how the children passed on the knowledge of how to use swings, slides, etc. Together, the children discovered and shared a piece of unimagined joy.

We cannot put into words the gratitude the children felt for giving them such a wonderful, peaceful place to be children and also have access to education.
