Modernized book meeting place in South Africa (January 2019)

Project description:

Renovation of the dilapidated library of Buisplaas

Buisplaas is one of the many so-called "poverty pockets" and is located 50 km from Mossel Bay and close to South Africa's famous Garden Route.

Working closely with community social workers led by Joseph Johnston, the existing dilapidated library of Buisplaas, a small hamlet of 40 households, was thoroughly renovated to become a much needed computer center. Boarders who return to their village only on weekends because of the long distance to school now have web access under supervision, and elderly people of this remote village feel less isolated.

“Think of giving not as a duty, but as a privilege.” – John D. Rockefeller

The new Community Center, which was upgraded thanks to D.R.O.P.S. donations, now includes a general use vegetable garden with seating area and a fenced play area as a safe recreation area for the town's preschoolers.

The building was officially handed over in January 2019 in a joyful get-together.
