Medical mission in Sri Lanka (February 2015)

Project description:

Medical outreach to the poorest of the poor.

In February 2015, Dr. Janina Beilner from Germany joined the D.R.O.P.S. team and flew to Sri Lanka with Dr. Michael Kloep and Chris Beilner. Areas with extremely high poverty rates such as Kakkapalliya, Koreapura, Naguleliya, Manuwangama and Seemaweliya in the northwestern province of Puttalam were prioritized during this mission.

Basic needs such as electricity, water, transportation, infrastructure, food, education, etc. are virtually non-existent in these regions. Thanks to the support of Rev. Fr. Jude Nicolas, founder of Dimuthu Foundation, we were able to directly reach the poorest of the poor in one of the most remote parts of the world.

Within three days, medical care was provided to those in need in the five different communities. During this mission, our main focus was on medical examinations and treatments by our volunteer doctor Dr. Janina Beilner, as well as an educational campaign on dental and hygiene measures by Dr. Michael Kloep and Chris Beilner, who made efficient use of the long waiting times.

“Life is not about giving up or giving in. Life is about giving.” - Anthony Douglas Williams

The unbroken will to live of these strong children, women and men living in deepest poverty is reflected in the many photos and has left a great impression on us.

We would like to thank our sponsors and all the volunteers who helped us to provide medicine, toys, dentures, food and much more.
