Project Description

After thorough renovation and sanitary upgrading of existing premises the New Vleesbaai Community & Learning Centre opened its doors on December 15, 2019. Welcoming crowd of young and old alike, the ceremony started with a short church service and much singing and praising of the Lord.

Honorary representatives from the Mossel Bay Municipality, the Police and teachers of the Kwanonquaba Informal Settlement School adressed the attendees and highlighted the significance of such educational communal facilities in remote rural poverty pockets where direct access to information and family bonding are problematic.

A communal space, where children can play in safe surroundings while mothers or grannies are able to connect and students of all ages may improve their knowledge, not only increases open-mindedness but also steadily improves a damaged social structure.

D.R.O.P.S. funds were used to pay local craftsmen and builders to upgrade the old school building and to built an outdoor play and rest area. The restored library now houses a D.R.O.P.S. sponsored internet hub consisting of 2 PC’s with printer and wifi access prepaid for a whole year.
