D.R.O.P.S. & ‘KINDERGARTEN OF JOY’ Water Project – Tanzania (July 2021)

Wingfield Refugee Camp Project - South Africa

Project Info

Project Description

Kindergarten of Joy is a pre-school (both fee paying and non-fee paying) based in Mafinga, in a city with more than 200 000 citizens, in the Iringa District, Tanzania which helps local children aged 2-5 learn and grow in a safe environment within their community. Currently there are135 pupils.

D.R.O.P.S. deliberated closely with the founder/manager, Albert Kahai, to understand the challenges faced by the pre-school to see how best D.R.O.P.S. foundation can make a real long lasting impact on the community, teachers and children.

The most sustainable solution was to provide a water source to the school. At the time, water was brought in buckets from neighboring farms, which made general hygiene difficult. Therefore a permanent water source, via a borehole, and infrastructure was needed and accessible to the toilets, kitchen and common areas to provide a safer environment for the kids to prosper. Which of course is aligned with D.R.O.P.S.’s mission, as hygiene is at the top of our teaching agenda during our projects.

The project kick started in March 2021, and with dedication, perseverance and sheer will, Albert made the project a reality in July 2021. The infrastructure was created and drilling commenced when finally water spouted from the ground on 10 July 2021.

Thank you to all our donors and volunteers who made this project a reality!
